Review: Outside In - Maria V Snyder

Outside In (Harlequin Teen)Title: Outside In
Author: Marie V Snyder
Format: ebook (net galley)
Pages: 320
Genre: Sci-fi, Dystopia
Published: 1st March 2011 (Harlequin Teen)

Me? A Leader? Okay, I did prove that there's more to Inside than we knew. That a whole world exists beyond this cube we live in. And finding that led to a major rebellion - between worker scrubs like me and the snobby uppers who rule our world. Make that ruled. Because of me, we're free. I thought that meant I was off the hook, and could go off on my own again - while still touching base with Riley, of course. He's the one upper I think I can trust. But then we learned that there's outside and then there is Outside. And something from Outside wants In.
My review of Inside Out, the first book of the series, can be found here.

*Possible spoilers of Inside Out*

Following the rebellion and the discovery of Outside, the people of Inside are struggling to deal with their new found freedom. Things haven't gone quite as planned and the Committee (those now in charge) are having to take measures which make them not so different from the previous leaders.Trella expected a quiet life following the rebellion but people are expecting her to step up and be a leader. And then they have the issue of something trying to get Inside.

Outside In follows on nicely from the previous book with a little recapping of what happened without repeating too much. The story is as exciting as the first, full of twists and turns, leaving you not knowing what is going to happen next or who to trust. There's plenty of action going on as well as getting to know the characters more and exploring the relationships between them. We also find out more about the history of Inside.

A great story world and impressive writing makes this one of my favourite books of the year so far.

Friday Finds

The Demon Trappers: Forsaken - Jana Oliver
The Demon Trappers: ForsakenRiley has always wanted to be a Demon Trapper like her father, and she's already following in his footsteps as one of the best. But it's tough being the only girl in an all-guy world, especially when three of those guys start making her life more complicated: Simon, the angelic apprentice who has heaven on his side; Beck, the tough trapper who thinks he's God's gift, and Ori, the strikingly sexy stranger who keeps turning up to save her ass. One thing's for sure - if she doesn't keep her wits about her there'll be hell to pay...
By Midnight - Mia James
By Midnight. MIA James (Ravenwood)April Dunne is not impressed. She's had to move from Edinburgh to Highgate, London, with her parents. She's left her friends - and her entire life - behind. She has to start at a new school and, worst of all, now she's stuck in a creepy old dump of a house which doesn't even have proper mobile phone reception. Ravenwood, her new school, is a prestigious academy for gifted (financially or academically) students - and the only place her parents could find her a place, in the middle of term, in the middle of London, on incredibly short notice. So she's stuck with the super-rich, and the super-smart . . . and trying to fit in is when the rest of the students seem to be more glamorous, smarter, or more talented than she is, is more than tough. It's intimidating and isolating, even when she finds a friend in the conspiracy-theorist Caro Jackson - and perhaps finds something more than friendship in the gorgeous, mysterious Gabriel Swift. But there's more going on at Ravenwood than meets the eye. Practical jokes on new students are normal, but when Gabriel saves her from . . . something . . . . in the Highgate Cemetery, and then she discovers that a murder took place, just yards away from where she had been standing, April has to wonder if something more sinister is going on. . . . and whether or not she's going to live through it . . .
Fallen Idols - Neil White
Fallen IdolsEveryone would kill for their fifteen minutes of fame! A Premiership footballer is shot dead in cold blood on a busy London street, and a country is gripped by terror. Who is behind this apparently motiveless killing -- and who's next in the firing line?
